Internship

Compulsory Internship

Students of the Department of Accounting and Tax at the Vocational School of Social Sciences, Aksaray University, must successfully complete a compulsory internship of 30 working days (minimum 240 hours) in order to graduate. The process is carried out in accordance with the Aksaray University Vocational School of Social Sciences Internship Directive (in Turkish), adopted by the University Senate decision dated 19.11.2025 and numbered 2025/30-01.

For the internship to be evaluated, students must take the Internship Evaluation course in the 3rd semester. Students are expected to complete their internship at the end of the first year.

Eligible Workplaces

Students of the Accounting and Tax Applications Program may complete their internship at:

  1. Offices of certified public accountants (SMMM)
  2. Offices of sworn-in certified public accountants (YMM)
  3. Accounting and finance departments of private companies
  4. Public institutions and organisations
  5. Chambers of industry and commerce
  6. Accounting and personnel departments of municipalities
  7. Public and private banks and financial institutions
  8. Cooperatives with at least 100 members
  9. Accounting and finance departments of hotels
  10. Other workplaces approved by the Department Internship Commission

Finding an internship placement is the student's responsibility; the School administration is not obliged to find placements. The Department Internship Commission decides whether a workplace is suitable for the program. Internships may also be completed abroad, provided that the necessary permissions are obtained and all responsibility lies with the student.

1. Before the Internship: Application and Documents

Students starting an internship prepare the following documents:

  • Annex 1 Internship Application Form (Workplace Acceptance Form) — completed by the workplace and approved with signature and stamp.
  • Health Provision Document — obtained from the SPAS (Health Provision Activation System) service on the e-Government portal using the "Create Barcoded Document" option.
  • Annex 2 Insurance Request Petition
  • Annex 3 Code of Ethics Agreement (Intern Confidentiality Undertaking)

The documents are first approved by the Department Internship Commission / internship advisor and then submitted to the School Student Affairs Office on the announced dates.

Important: So that the insurance registration can be made on time, the Insurance Request Petition must be submitted to the Student Affairs Office at least 15 days before the internship starts. The internship of a student who does not complete these procedures will not be accepted.

Once the application is approved, the student receives Annex 4 Internship Attendance Sheet, Annex 5 Workplace Internship Evaluation Form and Annex 6 Internship Logbook from the Student Affairs Office. The student is responsible for keeping the documents safe, filling in the identity page of the logbook, attaching a photograph and having it approved by the workplace.

2. During the Internship

  • Internship dates are set according to the internship calendar announced by the School Executive Board at the beginning of the spring semester.
  • A full working day may not be less than 8 hours; the student must comply with the working hours of the workplace. Sundays and public holidays do not count towards the internship period.
  • The internship is, in principle, completed without interruption; in compulsory cases, with the approval of the Department Internship Commission, it may be completed in two parts (15 working days each, at least 120 hours each).
  • So that insurance premiums can be paid on time, Annex 4 Internship Attendance Sheet must be delivered to the responsible instructor at the end of each month (within the first week of the following month).
  • The internship workplace and dates may not be changed without informing the commission; otherwise the internship is invalid. Upon a justified request and with the commission's approval, the workplace may be changed once.
  • A student unable to attend the internship for more than three days due to illness informs the Department Internship Commission; the period is completed to 30 working days by adding the days of absence (this may not exceed half of the total internship period). In case of an occupational accident, the workplace representative and the student notify the commission and the Directorate on the same day.
  • The internship of a student who is absent without permission or excuse for three consecutive days or for 10% of the internship period is terminated.

3. After the Internship: Submission and Evaluation

  • Annex 4 Internship Attendance Sheet and Annex 5 Workplace Internship Evaluation Form are completed and signed by the workplace representative and sent to the relevant advisor with the student in a sealed, stamped envelope.
  • Annex 6 Internship Logbook is handwritten, with at least one page for each working day, and signed and stamped by the workplace supervisor.
  • The internship file is submitted to the Head of Department (the instructor responsible for the course) within 15 days at the latest after the start of the semester.
  • The Department Internship Commission meets within one month at the latest after the start of the semester, reviews the files and announces the interview dates. The internship file is assessed as the midterm grade and the interview as the final grade. A student whose internship is found unsuccessful repeats the internship.

4. Internship Exemption

Students who document, from the workplace and Social Security Institution (SGK) records, that they have worked for at least 90 working days within the last 5 years in a field related to their program are exempted from the internship upon the proposal of the Department Internship Commission and the approval of the School Executive Board. The exemption application must be made within the exemption period of the fall or spring semester of the first year of enrolment. The internship success of exempted students is also assessed within the Internship Evaluation course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do my internship during the semester?
Under Articles 12/(4) and 12/(5) of the Internship Directive, students who have no attendance obligation, who have extended their studies, or who have passed all their courses but not completed their internship may start their internship at any time. During in-semester internships, education continues; internships cannot be done on days with courses requiring attendance. Students doing their internship during the year must submit their documents by the end of classes.

Can I do an internship while working in an insured job?
The Directive contains no specific provision for this situation. The internship must be done separately from your working hours, with a full working day of at least 8 hours (Directive Art. 12/8). Please consult the Department Internship Commission before planning.

What insurance does the School provide?
Under Article 15 of the Directive, interns are covered by occupational accident and occupational disease insurance pursuant to Article 5/1-(b) of Law No. 5510. For students who are not dependants, general health insurance provisions also apply. Premiums are paid by the University.

I have worked before; can I be exempted from the internship?
Yes, under Article 14 of the Directive; the conditions are explained under "Internship Exemption" above.

Can I split my internship into two periods?
Under Article 12/(8) of the Directive, the internship is in principle completed without interruption; however, in compulsory cases and with the approval of the Department Internship Commission, it may be done in two parts of 15 working days each (at least 120 hours each).

Can I change my internship workplace?
Under Article 17 of the Directive, a one-time change of workplace may be requested, provided that the reasons are stated in writing and in detail and the commission's approval is obtained. The remaining internship days are completed at the new workplace.

I have lost my internship logbook. What should I do?
Inform the Department Internship Commission without delay. You will need to print a new copy of Annex 6 Internship Logbook, fill in your internship days again and have it signed and stamped again by your workplace supervisor.
